Durum Germplasm from CIMMYT
The primary breeding objectives of Karim Ammar (CIMMYT durum wheat breeder) are:
a) high yield under favorable conditions coupled with good performance under water-reduced conditions,
b) widely/globally effective resistance to leaf rust,
c) acceptable to excellent quality (high pigment and strong gluten).
Other objectives, such as septoria resistance, stem rust resistance, nematodes resistance, are addressed but more recently and in less aggressive way and the results of these efforts are not yet distributed in international nurseries.
The 40th International Durum Yield Nursery (IDYN) is now available from Australian Winter Cereals Collection.
