Seed increase, 2007 lines

The 2007 set cleared quarantine at SARDI and was supplied to the Germplasm Evaluation Project and sown in the last week of July 2007 for increase. Subsamples of 5-10 seeds were supplied to Harbans Bariana at Sydney University, Cobbitty, for rust evaluation. Seed buildup was done at Dookie Vic and Manjimup WA. The harvested seed was to be delivered to Shepparton on 10 April 2008, from which a bulk would be sent to AWCC for distribution to interested breeders by the end of April.

Partially replicated trials, 2005 and 2006 lines
Lines from the 2005 and 2006 sets were increased in the Germplasm Evaluation Project during 2006. 25 seeds of each were sent to AWCC, of which 10 seed were to be kept and 15 seed sent to PBIC for rust testing. A further 1.5g sample was sent under GRDC-CIMMYT MTA to Grant Holloway at DPI Vic in May 2007 for yellow leaf spot testing. This will be augmented by DArT® profiling and LMA testing undertaken in the Coordination Project, to be completed mid-2008. Samples have also been distributed under GRDC-CIMMYT MTA to interested breeders as noted on the Coordination Project page.

The lines from the 2005 and 2006 sets were reduced, based on seed availability and rust scores on the 2005 set from Cobbitty. The resulting 2005 set now has 137 entries and the 2006 set 183, giving a total of 320 lines, for yield trial at 5 sites in a design with 190 entries replicated twice at each site, plus 10 checks, and 130 entries replicated once, with spaces for 20 checks:

These partially-replicated yield trials were sown by Agrisearch in May 2007 at the 5 sites agreed upon by the Australian breeders as representative of the regions:
